Franco Giorgio Freda

Franco Giorgio Freda (born February 11, 1941) is an Italian political philosopher, publisher, and neo-fascist theorist associated with the development of Nazi-Maoism and radical European nationalism. Born in Padua, he studied law at the University of Padua and became involved in the Italian Social Movement before establishing the Gruppo di Ar and Edizioni di Ar publishing house in 1963. Influenced by Julius Evola, Plato, and revolutionary anti-liberal thought, Freda developed a political doctrine combining radical nationalism, racialism, anti-capitalism, and opposition to bourgeois society.
Freda is principally known for The Disintegration of the System (1969), which advocated the overthrow of the existing capitalist order and proposed cooperation between revolutionary movements of the far right and far left. His writings became influential within Italian neo-fascist circles during the Years of Lead. He was convicted of subversive association in connection with the 1969 bombings and later of incitement to racial hatred. Although definitively acquitted in 1987 of involvement in the Piazza Fontana bombing, a 2005 judicial ruling subsequently attributed responsibility to Freda and Giovanni Ventura, who could not be retried. Freda later founded the Fronte Nazionale, dissolved by Italian authorities in 2000, and continued his philosophical and political publishing activities through Edizioni di Ar.
